GREEN STEEL CARBON
Putting Locally Available Steel Byproducts to Productive Use
Green Steel Carbon is developing an Enhanced Rock Weathering program that uses locally available calcium silicate processed from steel slag for application on agricultural land.
The program creates a productive use for an existing steel-industry byproduct while supporting agriculture and removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
HOW IT WORKS
From steel byproduct
to a stronger tomorrow.
Green Steel Carbon gives a steel-industry byproduct a productive second life through Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW). Steel slag is processed into a calcium silicate material for application on agricultural land, supporting soil health while removing CO₂ through natural geochemical processes.
It’s a simple process with lasting benefits for farmers, communities, and the climate.

WHY IT MATTERS
One material.
Multiple benefits.
FOR AGRICULTURE
Supports soil health and has the potential to enhance crop productivity.
FOR INDUSTRY
Creates a productive use for a material that is already being produced.
FOR THE CLIMATE
Supports durable carbon removal through natural geochemical processes.
ERW IN INDIANA
Working with Indiana communities and farmers.
Green Steel Carbon is developing an Enhanced Rock Weathering program in Indiana, working with local partners, farmers and communities to advance field applications.
Field testing is helping inform the program’s development and approach to future deployment.
